Ford Recalling 400,000-Plus Mustangs for Airbag Fix

    1 Rating
DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford is recalling the Mustang from the 2005-'08 model years to make the front passenger-side airbag compliant with neck-injury standards for all passengers. The problem is that small women or large children — those in the fifth percentile for size, or about 5 feet tall and about 108 pounds — could sustain neck injuries if the airbag deploys while they are not wearing the safety belt.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said its testing using the fifth-percentile test dummy showed "an increased potential for neck injury" if someone in that size range is not wearing the seatbelt, the seat is in full forward position and the airbag deploys.

Ford will reprogram software for the Mustang's airbag control module at no charge. The recall affects some 470,000 Mustangs, most of which are in the U.S.
