SCOTTSDALE, Arizona — A 2008 Ford Mustang FR500S racecar is set to cross the block at the 2011 Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction here on January 21, with proceeds going to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The winner gets a chance to compete in the SCCA 2011 Pro Racing World Challenge Championship race and receives a $30,000 package of goodies, including admission to the Ford Racing High-Performance Driving School at Miller Motorsports Park and a sponsorship package from SPX Corporation for technical racing support.
The car is donated by SPX. At last year's Barrett-Jackson auction, SPX helped to raise $275,000 for the charity with a 500S autographed by several racecar drivers.
The latest donated car features a carbon-fiber louvered hood, trunk and rear spoiler, Brembo Racing Pro Series four-piston brake calipers, Pirelli racing tires and a slew of Ford Racing Performance Parts. They include high-flow cylinder heads, full race camshafts, intake manifold, competition throttle body, a race-capacity oil pan and a high-torque one-piece aluminum driveshaft.
