NEW YORK — Ford took the wraps off its Shelby GT-H, which commemorates the 40-year anniversary of the Shelby/Hertz GT350H "Rent-a-Racer" program, on Wednesday at the New York International Auto Show.

Dipping once again into its retro bag, the automaker cloned the classic black-and-gold Hertz livery from the 1960s for its 2006 limited-production run of 500 units of the Shelby GT-H.

The vehicle will be available later this spring for rent through the Hertz Fun Collection at select airport locations in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

Ford Racing Performance Group supplied its Power Pack to add 25 horsepower and 10 pound-feet of torque to the 300-horse Mustang GT 4.6-liter V8. The package includes a five-speed automatic transmission, Ford Racing's 90-mm Cold Air kit, the muffler kit, a new X-pipe similar to the one used on the new Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang, and a cat-back performance exhaust.

The black-and-gold exterior color combination is referred to by Mustang aficionados as "Hertz colors." Shelby's traditional Le Mans dual overbody racing stripes our combined with a set of rocker stripes that include Shelby GT-H nomenclature. The car is fitted with a custom Shelby Performance hood with pins and a brushed aluminum grille with running horse emblems.

What this means to you: A whole lot of Mustang fun on your next vacation.
