    What Is It?

    What's Special About It?

For the first time…well…ever, the Mustang convertible benefits from being conceived and designed as a convertible from Day One of its development. Because Ford knew the 2005 Mustang would have to measure up to 21st-century drop-top standards, it incorporated all of the necessary bracing into the coupe's advanced chassis. The result? Twice the torsional rigidity of the previous Mustang convertible with a modest 175-pound weight gain over the all-new coupe. The power top comes standard in both V6 and V8 models, and the large rear window combines with relatively narrow C-pillars (for a convertible) to offer impressive rear visibility with the top up.

    What's Edmunds' Take?

If you thought the coupe offered style, performance and fun at a great price, the $30,000 Mustang GT convertible ($25,000 with V6 power) will have you galloping to your nearest Ford dealer. We've already driven this one and can verify Ford's claims of coupelike composure, even when traversing broken pavement. And since it weighs only 175 pounds more than the coupe, it feels nearly as quick and nimble as the metal roof version, too. Just remember, you can burn in as little as 15 minutes of exposure to direct sunlight. — Karl Brauer
