2001 Ford Mustang Bullitt GT
What's special about it?
What better edition to show here in Tinseltown than one that's dedicated to a movie? Named after the Steve McQueen film featuring the grandpoppy of all car chase scenes, this Mustang features a lowered profile and special badging, including aluminum trim on the shifter, door sill plates, pedals and fuel cap cover. Rocker-panel moldings, side scoops, 17-inch aluminum wheels through which 13-inch fire-engine red Brembo rotors peep out also distinguish the Bullitt. The suspension, composed of Tokico struts and shocks, is lowered by three-quarters of an inch, and enhanced by front and rear stabilizer bars.
At the heart of the Bullitt is a 4.6-liter V8 massaged by a cast aluminum intake manifold to improve airflow, procuring 270 horsepower. It'll dust all other GTs who dare to challenge you at a stoplight. With high-flow mufflers to optimize the exhaust burble, all your neighbors will be able to hear you screaming down the road.
Why should you care?
Whether you're a muscle car enthusiast, a Mustang groupie or a movie fan, your beloved Mustang will be placed a notch or two higher on your affection list if you opt for this $3,695 package. Shown here in Los Angeles last year as a concept model, it will go into production in early March. Mustangs account for 20 percent of all Ford sales in California, and we think that film buffs will go for this sleek model in a big way. Better drive like Lt. Frank Bullitt to your nearest Ford dealer.
