    Just the Facts:
    • Ford Mondeo gets a minor face-lift for 2011.
    • It will make its official debut in August at the 2010 Moscow Auto Show.
    • The redesigned Mondeo will go on sale across Europe starting in September.

COLOGNE, Germany — The Ford Mondeo gets a minor face-lift for 2011. The automaker showed off some preview images ahead of the car's global debut on August 25 at the 2010 Moscow Auto Show. The choice of Moscow to show off Ford's bread-and-butter Mondeo points to the increasing significance of Russia as a key market for global automakers.

The redesigned Mondeo will go on sale across Europe starting in September. Ford said that the Mondeo will get several exterior tweaks, including new grilles, new front bumpers that include LED daytime running lights and redesigned rear lights that also use LED technology. The cabin gets a new flow-through center console design, a revised door treatment featuring flush and integrated door release handles and a new central overhead console with ambient lighting. A new satellite navigation system is also being introduced on the 2011 Mondeo.

The Mondeo range will also get lane departure warning, driver alert and auto high-beam, features that Ford says "are appearing for the first time in a Ford model."

The 2011 Mondeo gets the first application of a higher-performance 237-horsepower version of the 2.0-liter Ford EcoBoost turbocharged engine. Ford is also introducing a revised 2.2-liter Duratorq TDCi engine to the lineup, which provides a 12 percent power increase to 197 hp, "making it the most powerful Duratorq diesel engine to date," said the company in a statement. Ford said that technical details about the Mondeo will be released closer to its launch date.

Chances are probably pretty slim that the Mondeo will ever reappear in the US. We did have the Contour and Mystique which were not well received, which is a shame. I had a Mistique and it was a very good car. There really isn't a market for it. It would have to slot between the Fusion and the Focus. Realistically that market just isn't there, especially with the new and improved Focus on it's way. Roadways and city streets in Europe were built initially to accomodate horses and carriages and are generally not suited to larger American cars. That, along with the economic realities of taxes, fuel costs et al there is a comparative downsize to most European cars. That, in a nutshell, is why what sells here does not there and vice versa.

Ford has the big box Flex for a wagon in the US. They have to disguise a real wagon because they won't sell. Crossovers are all wagons boosted up on the chassis to give a sort of SUV look and they sell like hotcakes! Like to see Ford bring back the "Country Squire" with the decal wood on the side and a surfboard rack on the roof--now that would sell !!!!!

Nonsense... by saying to bring this car here, we meant to have this same exact car built here any therefore it won't cost $40k.  Some of you people are so dumb, it's hopeless.   A Toyota Camry is sold for about $80K USD in Thailand, does it mean you're paying $80K USD here in America??
On the other hand, I think the Fusion is a fairly decent car.

Looks good.   A proper wagon....whcih means Americans won't buy it.    I guess the sedan might sell.

We Americans have always had the grass is greener attitude about anything European.  The idea of the Mondeo has been here before as the Contour/Mystique.  A simular car, the Fusion, is sold here, and it is actually a faster car at a friendlier price.  Another point:  Americans have been choosing crossovers over wagons or some time now, which is why few are offered here.  Crossovers offer advantages in head room, real life people room and carrying capacity.  Even Europeans are moving toward crossovers.

Finally, if we listen to the pundits, Americans are lining up to pay for $40,000 Fusions and Focuses.  The real world American buyer has not clammored for such things.  No, we have a habit of wanting everything for $1995.  If real quality is what we want, we'll have to pay for it at world prices.

Why don't we get this car? Do you want to pay 35-40k for it? Didn't think so. But next time around, it's a world car, so we will get as the Fusion (2013-14).

WHY can't they sell this thing here??!!  Call it the fusion, taurus, whatever you want its a 100% improvement over a Fusion.

jscion, I have said the same thing.  But I guess it didn't make a good business case for Ford.

The Estate (wagon) is just gorgeous! I really hope Ford US brings it here as the Fusion Wagon.
