Pair of 2005 Ford GTs Up for Auction To Benefit Charity

BLENHEIM, Ontario, Canada — The RM Auctions firm has announced it will auction off a pair of Ford GT supercars in August — one during the Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance in Michigan and the other in conjunction with the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The sixth Ford GT to be produced, painted red and white, will be the Meadow Brook car. Pebble Beach will get the seventh production GT, painted white and blue. Both are described as "basically stock" with a mid-mounted supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine making 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Neither has been owned by an individual before; Ford has used the cars for "promotional purposes" and the cars have 4,065 and 7,765 miles on their odometers, respectively.

The Ford GT was introduced at the 2002 New York Auto Show, designed to emulate the styling of the Le Mans-winning GT40 of the 1960s. It was produced from 2003-'06. The two examples to be auctioned are expected to sell in the $150,000-$200,000 range. In 2003 at another charity auction, the first pre-production prototype of the Ford GT sold for $557,500.

The one-day Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook auction takes place in Rochester, Michigan, on August 1. The Monterey event, Sports & Classics of Monterey, happens from August 13-15.
