DEARBORN, Michigan — The Ford Fusion is on its way to its best sales year, the Dearborn automaker says, as it prepares to take the wraps off the 2013 Fusion sedan at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.
Ford said Fusion sales are expected to reach 240,000 by year's end, making the Fusion the automaker's best-selling car.
"Fusion is a key contributor to Ford's car renaissance," said Samantha Hoyt, Fusion marketing manager in a statement.
Sales of the Fusion have risen by 54 percent from 2006-'10. The automaker noted that consumers are opting for "highly equipped models" of the Fusion. It said that 84 percent of Fusion models are sold with the Sync communications system, while 44 percent are sold with a reverse sensing system.
Fusion sales were helped along by the March earthquake and tsunami in Japan, which put the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in short supply.
On December 1, American Honda reported that year-to-date sales of the Honda Accord stood at 217,958 versus 253,073 during the same period in 2010, representing a 14.2 percent decline. Toyota reported that year-to-date sales of the Toyota Camry stood at 275,004 versus 296,581 during the same period in 2010, representing a 7.3 percent decline.
Inside Line says: Ford is in an enviable position with the Fusion as the new model prepares to come out of the gate.

Nissan Altima had a better sales year, passing Accord and Fusion, selling 30k a month twice, and with half the fleet of Fusion

@ Blackdynomite...sorry, but it looks like j2j got one up on you. When you start getting personal, it's a pretty good sign you've lost the debate. I think you need to let go of this hangup you've got about "fleet" sales, you seem to be pretty obsessive about it. Maybe I should clarify, you seem to have a problem with fleet sales, but just in the US.

@ Solcat - You made a brilliant comment about "if you buy a Fusion the profits go to Ford and not Toyota employees" ... too funny.
By the way, I was checking recalls on Motortrend's page. Turns out Camry have 5 times as many recalls as Fusion in the last 2 years.

Buy a Ford Fusion, sure it's being recalled for it's wheels coming off, but if you buy it the profits go to Ford's executive, not the American rank and file employees that make Camrys, that go 250,000 without major repairs, at least my wife's did.

My sister 04 Mitsubishi Galant was built in Normal, IL and my 02 Chevrolet Prizm/Toyota Corolla was built at the NUMMI plant in Freemont, CA. So I guess we buy American after all.

Sorry "adrn_10", 2013 Fusion is being built in Flatrock, MI. You're working for a foreign company and support a foreign country if you're working for Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, etc. You may want to look up the term serfdom. It hasn't worked out so well in the past. Wise up. If everyone used your "logic" and worked for foreign companies, where would that leave this country? Think about it. Do want to be the slave, or the master?

Fusion is not American made. It's made in Mexico and imported by train. My 2009 Honda Accord WAS made in America and they still are. Built by the hard working people of Marysville, Ohio. Profits may go back to Japan, but at least Honda gives Americas thousands of jobs. Ford and GM export American jobs. America has money, no other country comes even remotely close, but what we need is JOBS! My next car will continue to be a Honda regardless, because it gives Americans jobs.

Buy an award-winning American engineered and designed Ford Motor Company vehicle and you are getting the BEST for an affordable price. Buying a high quality, great performing, reliable, convenient, safe, high tech, and great fuel economy vehicle from American owned FORD MOTOR COMPANY you keep your hard earned money in America to help OUR PEOPLE,ECONOMY,COMMUNITIES,and WAY OF LIFE. You buy a Yota or Hunda,Hundai, etc and your money goes to support the Asians, the majority of who HATE US!! Also FORD MOTOR COMPANY designed, engineered, and built all these award-winning,Best Selling Trucks and Cars WITHOUT AMERICAN TAXPAYER MONEY and NO Hussein Obama or Nancy Pelosi--VOTE THEM OUT IN 2012~~

@bd1
How is Ford "padding its stats" any more than they did a few years ago when Fusion sales were about 100k less than they are now?
The % of fleet sales was around the same back then (like many things, you FAIL to grasp the concept of "padding.").
Plus, one can just as well say that Toyota is "padding" its Japan sales stats since its the LARGEST supplier of fleet vehicles in Japan (as well in other markets like Australia).
And compared to Honda and the Accord, Toyota is "padding" stats of Camry sales.

The difference is in the retail sales, the popularity, and the brand equity.
Ford can pad it's stats all it wants. Doesn't change anything.
It's all smoke and mirrors.......
