DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford is slowly revealing a digitally camouflaged 2013 Ford Fusion via a promotional video game app ahead of the car's debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.
The images show what appears to be an edgier look for the domestic sedan.
The app debuted on Wednesday and is available on the Android and iOS operating systems.
Ford said a daily video clip will feature new content, including demonstrations of key vehicle features. Users will be able to unlock access to the full image on the day of the car's unveiling in Detroit.
"We want to have an exciting and interactive way to build anticipation leading up to the reveal of the all-new Fusion," said Samantha Hoyt, Fusion marketing manager in a statement. "The app allows consumers to learn about the advanced technology and design of the car in a fun and easy-to-use way while reinforcing the transformative nature of the Fusion."
The "augmented reality app," as Ford describes it, is part of a larger trend by domestic automakers to painstakingly take the wraps off new vehicles ahead of the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. Chrysler is in the midst of a slow striptease of the Dodge Dart.

I live near Ford headquaters and have been seeing the camoflauged Fusions for months. I have to say I hope there is something great under all that camo. Cause so far from what I can tell it's not a very impressive design.

So the next Fusion will be based on that motorcycle thing from Tron Legacy?

It's called viral marketing, it got Inside Line to cover it, and generate buzz. It already paid for itself in "awareness" it generated.

Money wasted on this silly little app would have been better spent improving some component for Ford models. A picture tease would have been just fine, Ford guys.
Oh I suppose if I was 18-something with nothing else to do this would have been interesting.

If Ford does it right, this car will likely outsell the all conquering Camry
