- The new limited-edition GT Black is the production version of the GT concept unveiled last month at the 2011 Melbourne Auto Show.
- FPV will build and sell only 125 units in Australia, priced from $75,500.
- As the name implies, the GT Black gets a black-on-black color scheme.
MELBOURNE, Australia — Ford Performance Vehicles — better known in Australia as FPV — has released the limited-edition GT Black, a production version of the GT concept it unveiled last month at the 2011 Melbourne Auto Show.
FPV said it would build and sell just 125 units of the GT Black, priced from $75,500.
Based on Ford of Australia's rear-wheel-drive Falcon sedan, the GT Black is powered by Ford's supercharged 5.0-liter V8, rated at 449 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.
The exterior of the car is painted Silhouette Black, with black grille, bumpers, alloy wheels and tailpipes and matte-black striping. The monochromatic theme continues in the cockpit, with black leather and trim.
Echoing the original Henry Ford, FPV General Manager Rod Barrett joked: "The GT Black is available in one color only, so there will be no confusion when it comes to placing an order for this one."
Inside Line says: Ford of Australia's answer to America's Boss 302 Mustang.

It's just a shame, a real shame, that Ford cannot offer this Falcon or any AU Falcon in North America.

the Falcon in the states would be alright, but i would prefer a RWD Taurus that competes well against the likes of the Charger R/T and SRT as far as performance and American coolness while also doing well in overall quality ( which i hear has improved in all Fords ). The SHO is nice and all with its ECO Boost 3.5L V6, but how's this for an idea, Ford. How about a RWD Taurus ( with an AWD option ) SHO SVT with an "ECO Boost" twin turbo 5.0L V8 with 500+ HP.... wait for it.. AND! a 6 speed manual tranny ( with an 8 spd double clutch auto as a no cost option ).. Wooh!!
Build that, and you would make America and our four fathers very proud.
Man! Can i dream, or what....

Oh wait, the best part of this, FPV spent $40 million AUD to rebuild that engine for the Falcon and bolt on that supercharger, to make a meager HP gain. $40 million would have been enough for Injection Molding machines to recreate the necessary interior components to make Mustangs RHD for Australia... and Australian Design Rules compliant...

Obsolete platform.
Dinosaur Technology.
The 2011 Taurus is superior to any iteration of the Falcon on every level.
I can't wait till Ford Global finally tells Ford Australia, enough is enough.
It can't be justified spending that kind of money on a car that isn't even selling 150,000 units in 5 years.
Bring the Mustang V6 and 5.0 to Australia and there won't be any need for any performance versions of the Falcon whatsoever. While Ford Global is at it, bring the Taurus SHO over too.

Ford, please bring this car to the states, keep the price under $40g's and thrown in the new V6 from the stang. You'll have a 2 year wait list, and I'll have an American car I would be proud to own.
