    Just the Facts:
    • Ford Australia unveils the midlife face-lift of its popular SUV.
    • The Territory for the first time will offer a turbodiesel option, sourced from Jaguar Land Rover.
    • The exterior of the Territory was designed in Australia and now is more in line with Ford's global "kinetic design" theme.

SYDNEY, Australia — Ford Australia has formally unveiled the midcycle face-lift of its Territory SUV, revealing images and details of the exterior and interior of the important local model, which is due to go on sale in May.

Ford did not announce mechanical upgrades for its new model, except that it would include diesel power for the first time, using a Jaguar Land Rover-sourced 2.7-liter TDCi V6 turbodiesel.

The exterior of the face-lifted Falcon-based wagon was designed in Australia and features all-new sheet metal (except roof, doors and tailgate), bringing the Territory more in line with Ford's global "kinetic design" theme. Trim levels include TX, TS and Titanium.

Inside, the new Territory is fitted with a new four-spoke steering wheel and restyled instrument panel, featuring for the first time an 8-inch touchscreen and new functional storage solutions. Decals in interior images, near the new four-spoke steering wheel, indicate that a driver's knee airbag will be added across the range. New interior finishes and a range of exterior colors are included as part of the new model package.

Inside Line says: An extensive restyling could give the Territory some longer legs before a full model change. — Mike Jarvis, Correspondent

ya the Territory is really, really dull. It's nowhere close to being competitive with the Toyota Kluger (Highlander) in styling, quality, etc. yet they are similiar in price. Buying one of these things makes sense ONLY if you buy it used as they depreciate a lot  in a short period of time. You'd have to be really stupid to buy obe of these new.

I own an Australian made car, and they are tough! Heavy but tough.  My GTO has a removable steel plate to protect the engine, that says a lot about the conditions of Australian roads.  The Taurus based Explorer would fall apart on those roads.

Wow. That is one ugly CUV. The Interior looks nice though...

Looks very similar to the new Ford Explorer with a VW Jetta front end.  Seems like the new Explorer here could very easily become the new Territory down under!
