FRANKFURT, Germany — A new off-the-shelf racer, the Ford Focus ST-R, is based on the company's just-unveiled Focus ST and is aimed at "professionals, amateurs and track-day enthusiasts," the automaker said.
The track-tuned, production-based Focus ST-R racecar is built by Ford Racing in North America and will be available shortly to teams and individuals competing in a variety of motorsports series, including Grand-Am ST, World Challenge TC and Canadian Touring Car Series.
The automaker added: "Ford also hopes teams will race the car in key European motorsport series and major national events such as the 24 Hours of Nürburgring."
The Focus ST-R features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, FIA-spec roll cage, uprated brakes and racing suspension under its stock body panels.
Not just aimed at big-budget teams, the Focus ST-R, according to the company, "will be available to order from Ford dealers in North America by seasoned hard-core professional drivers, amateur racers and track-day enthusiasts as well."
A variety of individual Ford Racing parts developed for the Focus ST-R also will be offered to do-it-yourselfers.
Inside Line says: A pretty slick turnkey racecar.

$100,000 for a car likely with worse performance and slower than a GT500 and Boss 302 that is not even street legal. Why would I want one?

If it's not AWD, which is most likely they can keep it for themselves.

They should add another seat and some rally wheels/suspension and I would buy that.

I wonder what these will cost.
The base car isn't very expensive and pieces probably would be reasonable to replace as they break/wear on the track. I assume the low volume and performance upgrades increase over the base model even with the deletes.

"No airbags...is that legal?"
It's not illegal. If you don't drive it on public roads, that is.
