"Sync Your Life" Contest: Win a Ford Focus

CHICAGO — We love Ford's new Sync system. It lets you control your portable music player just by saying the name of a song or performer out loud. Too bad the rest of life doesn't work that way.

How would you Sync your life? That's the question Ford and Microsoft are hoping people will want to answer by making a video and uploading it to the Sync Your Life Web site. Or you can stop by the Sync booth at both the upcoming 2008 Chicago and New York auto shows. There, they will have a green screen set up so you can make a video on the spot. The winner will receive a loaded Ford Focus. Runners-up can win a Sony DVD hi-def camcorder, Xbox or a $100 American Express gift card.

In Ford's current series of Sync commercials, regular folks try to command everyday objects by speaking to them Sync style. A large man in a white bathrobe says "curtains, close" then drops his robe to get dressed — only the curtains don't close and the neighbors are horrified. Clearly, creativity will play a big part in determining the winners. Current submissions include "Mother-in-law, mute" and "Hair, grow." We're going to throw out "Diaper, change" and see if that one sticks.

What this means to you: Come up with a clever ad idea and you could be driving a new Ford Focus — gratis. — Brian Moody, Road Test Editor
