DEARBORN, Michigan — With its rich 110-year motorsports history as a backdrop, Ford will spotlight tuner editions of the Focus and Fiesta at the upcoming 2011 SEMA Show.
Ford is planning to show at least seven different versions of the 2012 Focus sedan and hatchback, from such customizers as Roush, 3dCarbon, ID Agency, Capaldi Racing, Steeda, Bojix Design and COBB Tuning.
At least three versions of the 2012 Fiesta, from M2-Motoring, Gold Coast Automotive and Aaron Vaccar, also will be on display.
Referring to the customized editions of the new Focus, Mike Murphy, Ford's compact car marketing manager, said: "Millennials, which this car is all about, want to personalize every aspect of their lives — everything from laptop covers to body art and even cars."
Ford also plans to reveal new performance versions of the Mustang and other products, as well as a new 363-cubic-inch Ford Racing stroker V8.

I've been wondering about a Focus as a second vehicle, as I've sold my big cargo trailer, don't pull horse trailers anymore, and my F-250 is a bit much for just carrying the dogs around. I'm curious to see what Ford does with the ecoboost engines in the next year or so (it seems that we'll see motorcycle engine valve technology and turbocharging expand the capabilities of engines just as transmission technology is offering six, seven, and eight speed automatic transmissions).

As the recent buyer of a Focus SE hatch with the 5-spd and sport package, I was surprised at the lack of Ford branded aftermarket parts for the car. Specifically, I expected them to offer aftermarket pedals (the clutch pedal is a bit slippery). Oddly enough they offer better pedals for the Fiesta but not the Focus. Hopefully they realize the importance of capitalizing on the aftermarket crowd as Shouldermonkey said. Nonetheless the car seems like a winner based on my initial impressions.

If Ford capitalizes on the tuner market, these could be the new icons for the next decade, sort of how Honda Civics and Integras were during the 90s. Don't eff it up, Ford.

Millennials may be their target market, however I'm 41, have owned everything from a MB ML500, X3, A4, Jetta, Passat, Park Ave, Prelude and everytime I see a new Focus on the street I have to stare, I know that if I was going to buy a new $20k car tomorrow, a Focus SE stick would be it.
