2009 Ford Econoline: Like most years, the 2009 Ford Econoline van soldiers on with minor improvements, most of them geared toward tradesmen that use the Econoline exclusively as a work vehicle. The list includes wider-opening rear doors, customizable auxiliary switches, additional storage in the door panels, more comfortable seats, an optional navigation system and a trip computer. All Econolines with either the 4.6- or 5.4-liter V8 can now run on E85 ethanol.
2009 Ford Edge: An all-new vehicle in 2008, the 2009 Ford Edge receives only minor changes this year. The biggest news is the addition of the Edge Sport model. It comes standard with an eight-piece body kit, integrated foglamps and 20-inch wheels. A set of 22-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension are optional. All versions of the Edge receive additional interior grab handles, cargo tie-down hooks and a cargo net as standard. Ambient interior lighting is a new option on all trim levels, as is a blue suede interior appearance package that adds black leather-trimmed seats with blue Alcantara inserts.
2009 Ford Escape: After a mild cosmetic refresh last year, the 2009 Ford Escape gets a few mechanical upgrades this year. A new 2.5-liter inline-4 is now the base engine. It develops 171 horsepower (up from 153 hp) and 171 pound-feet of torque (up from 152). A five-speed manual transmission remains standard, but the optional four-speed automatic has been replaced by a six-speed automatic that delivers an additional 1 mpg in both city and highway driving. A revised version of the Escape's optional 3.0-liter V6 delivers 240 hp (up from 200) and is matched to a six-speed automatic only. All Escapes get a retuned suspension that adds a rear antiroll bar and revised shock valving. In order to improve efficiency, all Escapes have also added low-rolling-resistance tires, a more aerodynamic front end and a new electric power steering system. A capless gas tank is also standard on all models.
