Edmunds.com recommends vehicles in 33 pricing brackets and 10 type categories, including hybrid/electric, diesel and mobility.

The Buying Guides also offer a What You Should Know Before You Buy feature.

The 2012 Ford Fiesta is a standout in the guide. "For the second year, the Ford Fiesta sets the standard by which other cars in this segment are judged," said the Edmunds.com editors. The Fiesta is one of the Top Recommended cars in the under-$15,000 sedan category. The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic and the Hyundai Accent are also at the top of this category.

Edmunds.com editors like the 2012 Nissan Juke, the Kia Sportage and Chevrolet Equinox in the under-$25,000 SUV category. The Sportage is lauded for being "fashionable and fun to drive," while the Juke gets the nod "even if it has been nicknamed the Bionic Frog."

The M35h is singled out as the "top pick of hybrid cars over $40,000," while the Volt gets high marks for showcasing "GM's commitment to electric cars."

@rayzor; The Juke is hardly the worst offender here, cars like the Audi A8, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Porsche Panamera are enormous gas hogs designed to keep us enslaved to middle-eastern oil. The Porsche Cayenne Hybrid is one huge joke of a hybrid, getting only 20MPG city, the same as the giant Chevy Tahoe, but it weighs 700lbs less.

Wow!! How much did Nissan pay u guys to pick the Junk??? It is so ugly that I refused to even look at it when I pass one by on the road which is very rare, by the way.
The Fiesta, I'll buy that. I had a chance to drive one for 3 days and I was very impressed. It is a little tight in the rear seats but I got over 41mpg on the freeway with 3 people and the trunk packed.
As far as the Chevy is concern, it is a nice hybrid but for the price, the Prius is a better value, period.
