Subcompact Squisher: German Tuner Imports Ford F-650 for Europeans

    0 Ratings
MUNICH, Germany — A German tuner is sticking it to high gas prices and the European standard of driving compact cars in a big way: by importing Ford's F650 for European buyers.

Geiger Cars specializes in bringing American cars to the European market, including Hummers, Lincolns and Cadillacs. The company's latest hulking import, the Geiger F650, draws power from a Cummins diesel inline six-cylinder engine; but, rated at 737 pound-feet of torque and 320 horsepower, it's still not a fuel-sipper. It weighs in at 5.2 tons and stretches 21.3 feet — longer than four Smart Fortwos.

Importing the F650 will cost €99,000, equivalent to about $153,000. But if a stock F650 isn't enough excess for buyers, Geiger is happy to modify the truck with a chromed fuel tank, a leather interior, navigation and entertainment systems and — wait for it — gullwing doors.

What this means to you: When it comes to cars, you can always get what you want if you're willing to pay the right price. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
