One of the more significant developments is the big pickup's tri-fuel powertrain — a supercharged V10 that can run on hydrogen, E85 ethanol or gasoline. Ford says the truck has a range of 500 miles between fill-ups.
The exterior design provides a glimpse of the next-generation Ford full-size pickups that will be introduced in model-year 2008. The triple horizontal chrome bars in the grille are part of the signature Ford Division styling theme that was introduced several years ago on the 427 concept car and seen more recently in the midsize Fusion sedan.
The cabin is breathtaking. It is paneled in American walnut, brushed aluminum and brown leather. Convenience features include bold light-emitting diode (LED) headlamps, a full glass roof, and automated ottomans that deploy from the floor.
Because the cockpit is designed to resemble a fancy railroad club car in which patrons could sit back, have a smoke, and sip a brandy, Ford's designers came up with the perfect set of accessories to stash in the rear seat's center console. They include a nut dish, two tumblers, an ashtray, and other goodies. Although they may look like crystal, they are actually made of plastic — for "safety reasons," according to a public relations representative.
