400-HP EcoBoost-Powered '34 Ford Hot Rod Roars Into 2009 SEMA Auto Show

DEARBORN, Michigan — The '34 Ford Hot Rod spiced up with the automaker's EcoBoost V6 engine may be the ultimate blend of old school and new school to roll into the 2009 SEMA Auto Show next week. Look for the engine technology to launch in 2010 in the Ford F-150, followed by a 2.0-liter inline-4 in 2011 for the Ford Falcon in Australia, the automaker said.

The 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 in the '34 hod rod delivers an estimated 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, which Ford notes are numbers typically seen in a 302-cubic-inch V8.

The EcoBoost engine lineup is a critical part of Ford's future product plans. It says that, by 2013, more than 90 percent of its North American lineup will be available with EcoBoost technology and nearly 80 percent of its global nameplates will have an EcoBoost option. The first EcoBoost engine, a 3.5-liter V6, launched this year on the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO and Flex and the Lincoln MKS and MKT. A 1.6-liter EcoBoost inline-4 is bound for Europe in 2010, followed by the 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline-4 launching in Europe and North America.

EcoBoost blends turbocharging and direct injection technology to deliver up to 20 percent better fuel economy and up to 15 percent fewer CO2 emissions versus larger-displacement engines, Ford says.

The '34 Ford EcoBoost hot rod project is an intriguing way to get the EcoBoost message across to customizers — a key crowd for the Dearborn automaker to win over. The SEMA car is the product of the collaboration of Detroit Street Rods, Ford and Experi-metal. The Ecoboost engine in the show car is configured for rear-wheel drive and is mated to a Tremec five-speed manual transmission.

The "replica" gets an all-steel body, full fenders, running boards, electronic power windows, air conditioning and custom bumpers.

Man, Ford is showing the way forward. It's good to see that FoMoCo can still heve fun with it's products and keep their customer base happy, from the tuner who purchases the new Fiesta, to the up and coming EXEC who would consider the SHO. Ford is just doing great things with their vehicle lineup.

this is cool and all, but i'm more looking forward to the Taurus "Best of SHO" at SEMA. that thing looks subtly mean.
