2002 Ford Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCrew
What's special about it?
How about a blown 5.4-liter Triton V8 and standard 20-inch wheels? That's right, this year's Harley-Davidson-themed SuperCrew gets a supercharger under the hood that boosts output to a stout 340 horsepower and 425 pound-feet of torque. A standard limited-slip differential with 3.73 gears gives it plenty of tire-smoking potential and four-wheel ABS disc brakes assure that it will stop as fast as it goes.
Slightly revised 20-inch chrome wheels feature exposed rivets around the Harley-Davidson-emblazoned center cap. Dark Shadow Grey exterior color is new for 2002 along with flamed pinstriping that runs the length of the truck. Clear headlight and turn signal covers and a billet chrome grille round out the most noticeable exterior changes.
Inside, this special edition F-150 continues the Harley theme with a flame-embossed center console and two-tone leather seats that sport metal Harley-Davidson nameplates in the seatbacks. Additional interior upgrades include stainless steel and rubber pedals, an automatic climate control system and a restyled "spun metal" instrument cluster.
Why should you care?
Seeing a supercharger dropped into a truck other than the short-bed regular cab Lightning is a good sign. The fact that it's in a ridiculously expensive Harley edition isn't quite so promising. We can only hope that a strong-selling year for this truck will convince Ford that other less image-conscience but equally powerful versions of the F-150 would be solid additions to the F-Series lineup.
