WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Ford Motor Co. is recalling 123,632 Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators from model years 2007-'08 to replace faulty door handle springs that could come open during a side-impact crash. In a separate recall, the Dearborn automaker is also recalling 57,199 Expeditions, Navigators and Ford Econoline vans equipped with 5.4-liter engines to replace the fuel rail assembly, which has a hose that can crack and leak fuel.

The fuel rail assembly recall, which is expected to begin during March, involves 2007 model Expeditions, Navigators and 2006-'07 Econoline vans. In its recall summary of the problem, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says "the fuel rail crossover hose may contain weak areas. As a result, the hose may crack, which could cause a fuel odor and/or fuel leak. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire."

Dealers will replace the fuel rail assembly. Owners of the affected vehicles can contact Ford at (800) 392-3673.

The federal agency says the recall involving faulty door-handle springs on Expedition and Navigator is expected to begin sometime in February. Dealers will replace the interior handle spring on all side doors. Owners may contact Ford at (800) 392-3673. NHTSA says the spring on all interior side door handles of the affected Expedition and Navigator models can break and prevent the handle from returning to the fully closed position. "In the event of a side-impact crash, the interior door handle may cause the door latch to open, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant," it said.
