Ford also trimmed stickers by $200 on the 2011 Edge SEL, but hiked prices on the 2011 Edge Limited and 2011 Edge Sport by $1,000 and $2,300, respectively. All prices include a $775 shipping charge.

    Ford said the base 285-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 in the 2011 Edge is rated by the EPA at 19 mpg in city driving and 27 mpg on the highway for the front-wheel-drive model with six-speed automatic. Last year's base Edge SE was rated at 18 city/25 highway.

    The optional 3.7-liter V6 for 2011 makes 305 hp and has EPA city/highway ratings of 18/25.

    The automaker said sales of the Edge, which debuted nearly four years ago, are up 33 percent this year, to 65,369 units. Ford said it has sold 400,000 copies of the Edge since late 2006.

    Looks like the Sorento to me.

    Also, the Ford Explorer has the option of third row seating, something the Edge doesn't have.

    The way I understand it, Ford has done an outstanding job for a mid term refresher, i.e., it's gone way beyond the norm.  Also, the Ford Explorer has much more off road capability, not to mention towing ability with the terrain choice system, whereas the Edge I don't is intended for off road other than snow or smoother dirt roads, etc.  Ford is definitely on a roll and I'm going to get one!

    It seems like the "EDGE" and the new car chassis based "EXPLORER" are like one and the same! What have they done to seperate the two or is it just seperation by Marketing like the Edge is Soccer Mom go for groceries etc, and the Explorer is, hey i'm all outdoors,fishing camping,hiking,etc,etc.!

    I think a lot of people who were in the market a year or two ago for the Cayenne, are now more aligned with the market for the Edge. :-)

    @Windosor even so I still feel the comparison is apples to oranges and no person in the market for one of these vehicles would even consider the other a viable option.

    @compressor

    I think windsor was simply referring to power and potential performance and not the level of luxury.

    windsor5 - that's a strange comparison.  Not saying the Edge isn't nice, but your comparison is like me buying a Taurus and saying "move over jaquar xj".  Its not in the same class.

    If you need to go upmarket, a comparison to something like an Audi Q5 or '11 bmw X3 is more fitting.

    I would love to have this ride with an eco-boost option would be a pretty fun and quick crossover move over porsche cayenne =D.
