2011 Ford Edge Debuts at 2010 Chicago Auto Show

CHICAGO — The face-lifted 2011 Ford Edge makes its public debut this week at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show with an all-new cabin, three new engines and some razzle-dazzle technology among the highlights. The 2011 Edge goes on sale this summer.

A new model, the Ford Edge Sport, gets a version of the 3.7-liter V6 from the 2011 Mustang, as well as a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with paddle shifters, 22-inch wheels and tires, specially tuned suspension, aluminum pedals and its own specific styling accents. In the Edge Sport, the 3.7 makes 305 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque.

Other Edge models, including the SEL and Limited, get a new 3.5-liter V6 that delivers 285 hp and 253 lb-ft and is mated to a six-speed automatic without paddles. Ford also plans to offer a new 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine in the Edge "in the months ahead" but hasn't released details.

The new Edge gets revised four-wheel disc brakes and retuned shocks, springs and stabilizer bars, and will come with a wide variety of tire/wheel combinations, including standard 18-inchers on SEL and Limited and optional 20-inchers on the Limited.

Ford said the 2011 Edge will be the first crossover in its segment to offer adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support.

The company is also introducing its MyFord Touch "driver connect" technology on the 2011 Edge Sport and Edge Limited. Traditional buttons, gauges and knobs are replaced with clear LCD screens and five-way controls similar to those found on mobile phones and MP3 players, enabling the driver to view information via voice command, touchscreen tap or button click.

AWD w/ a stick shift would be nice.

also this thing about  touch screens and such... why?  Reminds me of the digital speedometer craze of the late 80s.

This isn't technophobia on my part... it's just that dedicated buttons and knobs are perfect for operating by touch alone.   Screens that you have to look at and contextual controls are just not a good match for even secondary car controls.   When i want to turn up the fan i just twist the fan knob.   I don't even look at it.  just reach over and do it.
Same for radio presets, or temperature.

Looks like a nice refresh, with some necessary "fixes" including better brakes. That said, the one thing Ford did not address is the weight of the vehicle.  Like most, the Edge could stand to lose several hundred pounds at least. With increasing federal mileage requirements looming, it is past time to de-pork nearly all cars.

wow, i must say this is a great looking car.... But i have somthing to say about the ford edge as I am a edge owner and let me tell you I love my car but there are some ongoing issues with the thing since day 1 of me owning it.everything from break noise that the dealer and ford can not explain to my turn signales keep burning out just the rear ones. Now the latest one is my ABS is shot and I have been waitng for the part from ford for a month now because it is on back order I have been in conntact with ford about it nad they are trying to move it along THANK GOD I have not had to use them because I would of been out of luck. But all in all I really do love my car.

as for the exterior and the interior good job ford you really did it this time but hopefully the new engine will make a big difference in performance numbers i still think they should have used the new ecoboost engine though in the sport model and not the four cylinder im talking about the one from the new Taurus SHO then we would have a real competitor here.

I can't think of the term "razzle-dazzle" without thinking of the movie Stripes. Thanks for that memory. :)

Wow, Ford is really on a hot streak lately! this is a significant mid-cycle refresh. Love the look of the optional sport wheels, but at these sizes, I have to wonder if they can keep the ride in check.
