CHICAGO — Ford has pulled the wraps off the 2009 Edge Sport, a factory-customized variant of its popular midsize family hauler.

The Edge Sport joins the SE, SEL and Limited models. It comes with standard 20-inch painted wheels or optional 22-inch polished aluminum rims, wrapped with low-profile Pirelli Scorpion Zero performance tires.

An aero body kit bundles a front airdam with integral foglamps and a lower grille insert, plus side skirts, lower door caps and a rear skirt. All the pieces are finished in body color. The Edge Sport also gets smoked headlamp and taillamp lenses and polished twin exhaust tips.

Inside, the dark gray leather seats feature light gray stitching and patterned suedelike inserts. The contrasting stitching is also used on the steering wheel and gearshift knob.

Ford is offering four exterior colors: Sport Blue, Ebony, Brilliant Silver and Redfire.

What this means to you: If you weren't digging the grocery-getter looks of the standard Ford Edge, the Sport model supplies a factory-backed upgrade. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
