- Fisker plans to launch the Karma premium plug-in hybrid in March.
- The less-expensive Nina model is expected to follow in 2012, plus four additional cars in the next five years.
- Fisker is considering a stock IPO after the Karma goes on sale.
PARIS — Fisker Automotive, which displayed its first Finnish-built production version of the Karma at the 2010 Paris Auto Showhere, said it plans to expand its range of plug-in hybrids to six models by 2015 and is considering an initial public offering of stock after the Karma goes on sale in March 2011.
In an interview with the Financial Times, company co-founder and CEO Henrik Fisker said: "We want to create a car company that only makes plug-in hybrid vehicles. We're going to have a range of six vehicles in the next five years."
In a separate interview with Reuters, Fisker added, "You have to get the revenue and launch the Karma, but we already are making sure our company is prepared for this possibility of an IPO."
Fisker said his company plans to build two more versions of the Karma sedan, which will be priced from around $88,000, plus three lower-priced models, including the Nina.
While the Karma is being assembled in Finland by Valmet, the Nina will be built at a former General Motors plant in Wilmington, Delaware, which Fisker acquired earlier this year for $20 million. Pre-production of the Nina is tentatively slated to begin in late 2011.
The start-up company, based in Irvine, California, has raised more than $300 million from private investors, including the Qatar Investment Authority, and has received $529 million in low-interest loans from the U.S. Department of Energy.
A Fisker IPO would follow that of rival Tesla, which launched its IPO in June.

Perhaps Fiskar should worry about launching ONE model before it ponders an IPO.
