DETROIT — Fisker Automotive told its U.S. dealers on Monday that prices for the 2012 Karma plug-in hybrid sports car will rise an average 6 percent on orders received after December 15, Inside Line has confirmed.
In a phone conversation on Tuesday, a representative of Fisker of Clarkston, a dealership based in mid-Michigan, told Inside Line, "We were informed of the price increase in a webinar yesterday."
The representative, who did not want to be identified by name, confirmed that dealers were told by Fisker Automotive that the average price increase would be 6 percent, and said the dealership was told to expect specific prices later today for each of the three Karma models.
A report on FoxNews.com said the price of the base 2012 Fisker Karma Eco Standard would rise from $95,900 to $102,000, not including a $950 shipping charge. Fox News said the top-of-the-line 2012 Karma Eco Chic would rise in price from $108,900 to $116,000, not including the shipping charge. Fox News did not provide a price for the Karma Eco Sport, which is expected to climb from $103,900 to around $110,000, not including shipping.
Fox News said customers who have already put down a deposit on the 2012 Karma have until January 15 to place firm orders at the original price.
The Karma has been reaching U.S. dealers in slightly greater numbers since production began earlier this year at contract assembler Valmet in Finland.
The California-based company hiked prices a year ago before the first Karma was built or delivered. When the car was announced in 2008, its projected price was $80,000. By the time the Karma reached production this year, the base sticker had climbed to $96,850, including shipping.
Inside Line says: Now that's inflation.

Although I'm usually not a murdered out black on black fan, this picture makes the case for a price hike and still buying this impractical car.

Let me ask, who wants to cross-shop an Aston Martin Rapide, Jaguar XJ, Porsche Panamera or even a Maserati Quattroporte over this thing? anyone?

Fair enough. I'm not concerned about the low volume limited production Karma pricing but more so the project Nina. Hopefully that will reach price targets.
I read Karma is using the more advanced even more stable battery cells.

The car is seriously lacking functionality, I went to the dealership in Santa Monica a couple weekends ago and they had a demo in the showroom which I had chance to play with. The car is huge and has serious presence but the interior is coupe sized with questionable ergonomics and no rear seat space and the trunk is a joke. I have a friend, "Hollywood type," who has ordered the Eco Shic version to replace his 911 C4S Cab, though I personally would not get a $115000 car with a cloth interior.

Not a surprise. I knew this car would cost no where near 80k. When did a company ever say priced at X amount and come back below that price? NEVER. We should all add 5-10% to any estimated base price to get a real number on a car. I just wish one time an automaker was honest and said the car wil be less than 30k then price its base including destination at 27-28k instead of 29,900 plus destination. That will never happen though we all know that.

Simply ludicrous, which if perfect for the Hollywood types that need the latest "green" jewelry. Sure the car looks good, but then a lot of six figure cars do.
