Electrifying: Fisker Runs Ads for Karma during Oscars in L.A.

LOS ANGELES — Luxury electric-car maker Fisker Automotive used the Academy Awards telecast as an opportunity to give its Karma a turn on the red carpet. A pair of 60-second advertisements for the plug-in hybrid ran on local KTLA-TV on Sunday night during the preview to the Oscar telecast.

Public relations chief Russell Datz told Inside Line, "This was an opportunity to get in front of an audience we think would most appreciate an environmentally friendly luxury vehicle." He added that Fisker does not plan to launch a "comprehensive ad strategy," meaning TV viewers in Sioux Falls and Buffalo need not hold their breath waiting to see these spots locally.

Fisker is targeting production of 15,000 vehicles per year, priced starting at $87,900. Pre-orders, with a $5,000 deposit, are being taken at the company's Web site. Deposits for the Karma S, a convertible version, are set at $25,000. The car is set to start delivery in late 2010, according to the site.

Inside Line says: A pleasant surprise for Fisker enthusiasts who were watching the movie stars go by on L.A. television. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent
