DETROIT — Fisker Automotive unveiled its second model, a concept hardtop convertible called the Karma S, at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.

The company also rolled out the official production version of the Karma sedan, a high-end plug-in hybrid that goes on sale in late 2009, priced starting at $87,900. Fisker said it already has received more than 1,000 orders for the car, which will be assembled in Finland by Valmet.

Although not yet finalized for production, the four-passenger Karma S — the S stands for Sunset — has a target startup date in mid-2011. It shares some sheet metal and most major underpinnings with the sedan, including a pair of electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack.

The convertible is slightly shorter than the sedan. Its power-retractable hardtop folds neatly into the trunk.
