IRVINE, California — The electric Fisker Karma took another big step toward reality on Tuesday with word from the automaker that 32 retailers have said they will carry the brand.
"The number puts the carmaker close to its goal of having 40 locations across the country by the end of June 2009," Fisker said in a statement.
The $87,900 Karma, a plug-in hybrid that Inside Line earlier said "looks like a version of the Maserati GranTurismo," is expected to go into production later this year.
Fisker also provided a list of the dealers, who are sprinkled throughout the U.S. in places such as Orange County, California; Miami; Long Island, New York; San Antonio; and Denver.
Fisker said the showrooms would highlight the car's green nature.
"They will be Eco-facilities, not Ego-facilities," said Fisker board member Vic Doolan in a statement.
The facilities will feature such touches as a solar-powered carport to keep "demonstrator vehicles clean, dry, fully charged and ready to go."
