What's New for 2012: All Makes

2012 Fiat 500: This is the car that will make you forget about all those terrible Fiats we used to get in America. At least that's what the "new" Fiat is hoping. The 2012 Fiat 500 has a chance, though, as it's a thoroughly modern hatchback with unique styling, a fuel-efficient engine and an inexpensive starting price of around $16,000. For that price you get a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces a whopping 101 horsepower. Thankfully, a five-speed manual is standard so you can wring the puny engine for all its worth. A six-speed automatic is optional should you want even less inspired performance. There are three levels of trim (Pop, Sport and Lounge) and a wide variety of options to give the 500 a more custom look and feel.

2012 Fiat 500C: This is the convertible version of the Fiat 500 hatchback. Unlike traditional convertibles, however, the roof on the Fiat 500C doesn't completely fold down. Instead, it merely slides back along the fixed roof rails much like an extra-large sunroof. Some might not consider this a true convertible. Thankfully, for them, the Mini convertible still exists.

I don't get the info in this section, which seems to be from last year. Fiat's already announced the Abarth is coming to the US in March, and pricing will be announced at the NAIAS ($22,500). Since the US Abarth with 160hp is essentially the same as Europe's SS, the standard European Abarth will be sold here starting in the summer 2012 as the 500 Sport, same as the current car 500 Sport that Edmunds is running but with a 135hp turbo engine, giving us 4 models: 500 Pop (discount version), 500 Lounge (Luxury version), 500 Sport (Sporty version) and 500 Abarth (High Performance version).

yeah, seriously.  Come on, you're competing for most underpowered car in the states right now...  is that a title a new brand should hold?!  (I'm aware the MAZDA2 has 1 less HP, 1 LESS!)  If you couple bump it up to like 140, that'd be enough, we don't even need the 160 from the Abarth SS, we have chips for that.
