Fiat is seriously upping the cute factor on the 500 thanks to a new soft top version that debuts right here at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show.   The Fiat 500C will launch with the same three inline four-cylinder engines first used in the hardtop 500 when it debuted in 2007. The choices include a 1.2-liter gas engine, a 1.4-liter gas engine  at 99 hp and a 1.3-liter Multijet diesel good for 74 hp.  The soft top is power but rather than being a true convertible, much of the car’s structure remains intact and only the roof opens and closes. This makes the little Fiat safer too.  Of course none of this matters to American buyers... unless a Chrysler/Fiat deal actually goes through. In that case look for the super cute Fiat 500 C to show up on American shores in about three years.
