LONDON — When the shocking-pink Fiat 500 created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Barbie doll debuted last March, Britain's Top Gear described the one-off as "an all-time low for taste and decency." But that didn't stop the Italian automaker from rolling out a Fiat 500 Pink on Tuesday, aimed at what it says are "free-thinking drivers who have a distinctive personality."
Customers can only order the Fiat 500 Pink online, and Fiat says it will sell just 500 units here.
"Appealing mainly to young women, the 500 Pink looks set to become 2010's 'must-have' motoring fashion item," said Fiat in a statement. It said the Fiat 500 Pink is the first of several Fiat 500 limited editions that will be introduced in 2010.
The special pink model is priced at the U.S. equivalent of $19,049. It is based on the Fiat 500 1.2 Lounge specification and includes a start-and-stop system to save gas, a sunroof, a leather gear knob, a black interior, a special pink key cover and special carpet mats.
The car can be ordered from Fiat's Web site.
