LAS VEGAS — The Fiat 500 has been named to the list of hottest vehicles at the 2011 SEMA Show, beating out a dozen competitors in its category, including the Hyundai Veloster, Ford Fiesta, Honda Civic and Scion iQ.

The Fiat 500 took home honors in the new hottest sport compact car category. The crowded field also included the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Sonic, Ford Focus, Honda CR-Z, Lexus IS, Mazda 2, Scion tC and Subaru Impreza.

The Chevrolet Camaro, Ford F-Series and Jeep Wrangler were the winners in their respective categories for the second year in a row.

The Camaro was named the hottest car at the 2011 SEMA Show, blowing past the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang, Kia Soul, Lexus CT 200h and Mazda 5.

The Ford F-Series was named the hottest truck at the 2011 SEMA Show, defeating the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado, Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Transit Connect, GMC Canyon, GMC Sierra, Ram, Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Tundra.

The Jeep Wrangler was picked as the hottest 4x4-SUV, beating the 2012 Dodge Durango, Dodge Journey, Ford Explorer, Hyundai Santa Fe, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Kia Sportage, Toyota RAV4 and Toyota FJ Cruiser.

SEMA said the awards were designed to point consumers toward the "most accessory-friendly vehicles on the market."

Show organizers said contender vehicles were picked "based on the support the automaker has demonstrated to the SEMA industry, pre-registrations of the show's feature vehicles, involvement in one or more SEMA OEM collaboration programs, coverage in enthusiast publications and more."

It is the second year for the SEMA awards.

Inside Line says: Did the underdog win in the hottest sport compact car category or is the Fiat 500 the clear choice?

crossfire2004 - There weren't any turbo models at SEMA.  And the Abarth isn't even going to be shown until 2 months later.  Enough said.

The 500 looks Italian. Its competitors do not. What more needs to be said?

Anyone stating the 500 drives better than a Mini cooper needs to get a clue.  Pretty sure every review has  been pretty unanimous on that front.

the Fiat 500 is a SPORT compact as it has 2 doors & drives better than a mini cooper! The turbo model is also VERY sporty. Get a clue!

Terrible choice.  There's no "sport" in this sport compact car.

This is obviously a big HeeHaw by the Rednecks at SEMA considering the Fiat500 is now a sportcompact car.  Kind of like how NASCAR is racing.

The only good looking F150 is the Raptor and the FJCruiser is better looking than a Wrangler any day of the week if somehow Land Rover has been DQ'd.  IMO of course.

Read that last paragraph again.  The first thing mentioned in the selection process is "the support the automaker has demonstrated to the SEMA industry"

This is an award that you can buy, and it sure as hell isn't something that fans or general public voted on.

One more reason why after 10 years straight of attendance, I stopped going to the SEMA show a few years back.  It's all bling, fancy paint jobs, nasty ass huge wheels and chicks in bikinis (ok, that part is ok).  Very little performance about it.  Now, PRI show in Indy is the show to go to if you like fast cars and ways to really make them faster.

blackdynamite your not too bright are you??? and im assuming your some closet case...what is gay about an f150, wrangler, or camaro. Not too mention the only type of men if you can call them that are so worried about their manhood that they cant be seen in certain cars are the same ones that are worried about being found out.....get counseling...
