    SHANGHAI, China — Fiat is marketing 100 numbered units of the 500 minicompact, with special graphics created by five young Chinese designers, as part of the official September 15 launch in China of the Cinquecento in partnership with China's Guangzhou Auto.

    The Fiat 500 First Edition comes in five versions: 500 Life, 500 Surprise, 500 Shangri-La, 500 Fairy Tale and 500 Follow Your Instinct.

    In addition to the exterior graphics package, the First Edition features special three-coat pearlescent white paint, red leather interior and a special badge on the door pillar.

    Based on the 500 Lounge, the First Edition comes with a 1.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and six-speed automatic transmission. The basic 500 is priced in China from $29,250.

    Beginning this week, every Chinese consumer who places an order for the Fiat 500 before September 15 will be placed in a drawing for one of the First Edition models.

    Next year, Fiat and GAC plan to introduce the 500C convertible and the 500 by Gucci series in China.

    Inside Line says: The introduction this fall of the Cinquecento in China precedes next year's launch of an all-new sedan by the Fiat-GAC joint venture.

    @vantageman

    Since the late 60´s american cars are required to have amber (front) and red (rear) side reflectors and lights, that is a way to recognize a car made originally for the american market. European cars are required to have the turn signal sidemarkers, and since those are permitted in the US, many cars have them now in the US. The cars in the pictures have both, but if you look at the european versions of the 500, it only has the turn signal sidemarker.

    The cars in the pictures have US type side markers .... (I think they are not required in China)

    Are they exported from the Toluca plant or assembled in China (CKD)?
