The auction, which is the third annual Leggenda e Passione event, will see a number of classic Ferraris up for auction. The Testa Rossa, with chassis no. 0714TR, will be the star, "the most significant and desirable Ferrari to be offered on the world's auction stage," in the words of RM Auctions. The Scaglietti-designed 250TRs were produced in the 1957-'58 period. The 22 built were victors in 10 international championship races. The one up for auction had "significant finishes" including 4th place at the Buenos Aires 1,000-km race and is described as "by far the most campaigned of the 250TR client series cars."
Its second owner was Texan rancher Alan Connell, who campaigned the car on the North American racing circuit. It was last raced by a subsequent owner in the Elkhart Lake 500 in June 1963.
The current vintage-car auction record was set at last year's Ferrari Leggenda e Passione auction, where a 1961 Ferrari 250GT SWB California Spyder sold for $10.9 million.
Inside Line says: Should be interesting to see whether the global economic crisis affects spending of this kind. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent
