TOKYO — A multimillion-dollar chain-reaction crash Sunday morning on a Japanese highway took out a dozen expensive European cars, including eight Ferraris and a Lamborghini.

Media reports from Japan said the vehicles were being driven by a "group of foreign car enthusiasts" on their way to Hiroshima. See a report on Japanese television here.

According to the Associated Press, local police believe the collision started "when the driver of one of the Ferraris tried to change lanes and hit the median barrier. He spun across the freeway, and the other cars collided while trying to avoid hitting his car."

The AP report said 14 cars were involved, including two Japanese cars, but no one was seriously injured. According to the news agency, "Police declined to comment on the total amount of damage, but said some of the vehicles were beyond repair."

Various media reports said the wrecked cars included a Ferrari 360 Modena, an F512, an F430 and several 355s, as well as a Lamborghini Diablo and three unidentified Mercedes-Benz models.

What a waste that such beautiful cars got trashed in such a grizzly manner:( I feel bad for the drivers as well. On the other hand they probably got what they deserved for being irresponsible! One little mistake behind the wheel of a Ferrari can have serious consequences. I must say that's one beautiful road! I guess even in Japan drivers aren't safe anymore... By the way everybody fuck that shitty PriusXD!

    chinesedriver:

I never said Japanese were bad drivers. I said drivers of expensive cars in Japan were obnoxious, dangerous and untouchable. And drivers of expensive cars don't flash their hazards if you let them pass, either. Nor do they bow in their seat if you let them make a turn, which all other drivers do.

And you're right, as I also mentioned, that enforcement of traffic rules is lacking so these guys can drive badly with impunity. BUT, enforcement is only lacking for guys in expensive cars. All the average joes, like myself, get pulled over and ticketed at a fairly similar rate to what I've experienced in the US. This i probably why most people are good drivers in Japan, but the guys who never get pulled over or ticketed are the ones breaking the rules.

So, ONE Japanese driver screwed up and the Asian stereotype jokes are in full flow. Wow.
What's next? Every Caucasian Christian is plotting to blow up a Federal building because of Oklahoma City?

hudwa:  if you say Japanese drivers are bad drivers whom always disobey they law, I agree, but NOT as bad as you were talking about. They have emergency flash for thanks signal which America don't have.

The difference between America and the rest of the world is that America has more law enforcement persons on the road network than anywhere else. I used to hear my friend got a 580$ ticket by running YELLOW light on wilshire blvd in Los Angeles, and one of my other friend got a 260$ ticket for not stopping 3 seconds in front of a stop sign. No enforcement means lawless driving. On my way to Las Vegas from LA, I was cruise control at 70MPH, lots of drivers passed me with 90MPH+ speeds. Sometimes some rude drivers stretch their fingers out of their windows to show their "respect" to me......

To sum up, if America has not enough law enforcement power, drivers will drive as what you seen in Japan period
