Ferrari Takes the Top Off its F430 Supercar
Full story: As if Ferrari didn't want anyone to see them, the Italian supercar manufacturer quietly posted pictures of its new convertible, the F430 Spider, on www.owners.ferrari.com, an exclusive site for owners of the expensive cars.
Included in the release of information was a short list of technical specs, which states the car will be powered by the same 4.3-liter V8 as the F430 coupe, and the engine's output of 483 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and 343 pound-feet of torque at 5,250 rpm will be unchanged.
Most of the Spider's dimensions will also mimic the hardtop's, but the roadster will be about 1-inch taller (48.6 inches tall) and weigh about 150 pounds more (3,351-pound curb weight).
Performance according to Ferrari will include a 193-mph top speed and a 0-62-mph acceleration time of 4.1 seconds.
As the pictures show, the Formula One transmission, which is shifted by paddles behind the steering wheel, will be an option. A very expensive option. On the F430 coupe, it costs about as much as a new Kia.
Pricing for the F430 Spider has not been released, but expect it to cost significantly more than the coupe, which starts at $167,000.
What this means to you: If you haven't already got your deposit down for one of these tasty treats, it means you'll be paying a little extra for the privilege. And by a little, we mean a lot.
