Tuner Special: Edo Ferrari Enzo

AHLEN, Germany — Porsche. Aston Martin. Lamborghini. Maserati. And, yes, Ferrari. It seems like there are few production sports cars that Edo Karabegovic and his crew haven't tweaked in recent years.

The latest subject is the limited-edition Ferrari Enzo, which has been out of production for four years. No matter to Edo Competition, which has adapted a number of upgrades patterned after the FXX.

Modifications include new FXX-style exhaust headers with high-flow catalytic converter and a stainless-steel performance muffler with a remote-controlled butterfly valve to adjust the exhaust tone.

Edo has further retuned the Ferrari V12, installing a ram-air intake system with high-flow air filters and recalibrating the engine control module. The result is an increase in output, to 689 horsepower, and in torque, to 527 pound-feet. The company also has fitted a lightweight, high-performance clutch and a new transmission control unit.

Edo says 0-60-mph acceleration takes less than 3.5 seconds, with top speed climbing to 230 mph.

Edo's chassis modifications include adjustable dampers and Michelin performance tires — 265/35ZR19 in front and 335/30ZR20 in the rear. Lightweight alloy wheels can be custom-painted at the owner's request.

What this means to you: How fast is too fast? Ask Edo. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
