COTIA, Brazil — Ferrari Formula 1 racing driver Felipe Massa continues to make dramatic improvements in his long recovery following a July crash during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Massa and his team won the 500 Miles of Granja Viana kart race on Sunday here. Afterward, an emotional Massa dedicated the win to his newborn son.

"This was a very important goal for me after I had dreamt about getting back onto the track for a long time," Massa said in a statement on the Ferrari Web site. "I want to dedicate this victory to my son; it's my way to say how much I love him."

Massa teamed up with Lucas di Grassi, third driver of the Renault Formula 1 team, and Stock Car Lights driver Julio Campos for Sunday's event. The race had special meaning for Massa, harking back to his win here in 1997.

Massa's team beat that of Rubens Barrichello, which placed 3rd. During the Hungarian Grand Prix, the loss of a spring from Barrichello's car triggered Massa's devastating accident, which left him with head injuries.

Whether Massa will be fit to return to F1 racing for the 2010 season has been the subject of worldwide media attention.
