- Weight is trimmed by 66 pounds and output increases by 30 horsepower.
MARANELLO, Italy — Ferrari has reduced the weight and increased the power on the Ferrari California, and will introduce a new Handling Speciale package at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show.
Now in its fourth year of production, the California has had 66 pounds trimmed from its overall weight, due mainly to new techniques used to fabricate the car's aluminum chassis.
Ferrari also has massaged the California's 4.3-liter direct-injection V8, remapping the ECU and fitting new exhaust manifolds. The result is a bump in output to 490 horsepower, with peak torque of 372 pound-feet. Zero-to-60 acceleration now takes less than 3.8 seconds.
The new Handling Speciale package bundles ultrafast magnetorheological dampers, stiffer springs and a new quick-ratio steering box. The result, according to Ferrari, is reduced body roll and greater responsiveness to driver inputs.
Ferrari said it has already begun building the new California in Maranello.
Inside Line says: Subtle, but significant changes for the old warhorse.

Since when a ZR1 is 4 seater?????? one must be an idiot to compare a California and a ZR1 ..... And wich Ferrari owner would be stupid enough to want a car with cheap plexiglass on the hood to (try) to copy a car from Maranello ??????? The fit and finish of the latest Corvette are no match for their Italian counter part either so i think the price difference is more than justified.....

A reason to disagree with ZR1man is i don't think the audience is the same for these two cars. The Zr1 is more a track car and not available as a 2+2 with retractable hardtop and a dual clutch auto. This is a better gt car.

The only reason I'll agree with zr1man on this article is because this "California" does not deserve the moniker. The original was much more attractive and probably weighed less (maybe not, but definitely wasn't so fat).

With kevinucsd around, maybe I am not needed. But I will say it any how:
Zero-to-60 acceleration 3.8 seconds, shameful for a Ferrari. The ZR1 will blow it's doors off and cost a lot less too. Who would want one?
Vettes Rule!
