Back Home Again in Maranello: Important One-Day Ferrari Auction Planned for May

    0 Ratings
MARANELLO, Italy — Ferraristi around the world will have a chance to bid on dozens of important sports and racing cars at the Ferrari factory here in May. RM Auctions, in association with Sotheby's auction firm, will preside over a one-day event on May 18. "Ferrari: Leggenda e Passione" is the theme for the auction.

Two California Spyders — a 1958 250GT LWB and a 1961 250GT SWB, the latter ex-James Coburn — will be auctioned, along with a 1951 212 Inter coupe Pinin Farina with a prototype 3.0-liter V12, once owned by Roberto Rossellini, which means the passenger seat once held Ingrid Bergman.

The Ferraris themselves are the true celebrities, though. A 1971 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder, a 1950 166/195S Inter Vignale Berlinetta, a 1962 250GT/L Berlinetta Competizione and a concours-winning '67 275GTB/4 are all coming up for auction. So are Ferraris as recent as a 2008 India Tour 612 Scaglietti.

More details are available at RM Auctions.

What this means to you: Imagine the cars. Picture the audience bidding on them. The auction company's description of it as a "thrilling lineup" will be accurate on both counts. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent
