2008 Geneva Auto Show: Ferrari Steps Up Customization Program for 612 Scaglietti

GENEVA — Ferrari rolled out a new customization program for its 612 Scaglietti at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show on Tuesday, promising that owners can outfit their car "exactly the same way as they would at an haute couture fashion house."

The new "one-to-one personalization" program includes what the Prancing Horse brand describes as a "special dedicated 'atelier' area that has been set up at the factory, in which clients can put together their own bespoke 612 Scaglietti accessory by accessory, detail by detail." Of course, there's this disclaimer: "No modifications will be permitted that would impinge on the signature Prancing Horse safety and reliability." Guess that means they won't strip off the seatbelts.

To illustrate the program, Ferrari displayed a custom 612 Scaglietti with perforated-leather Daytona seats said to be inspired by the classic 365 GTB/4 on its stand here. The stand also included a "compact version" of the atelier at Maranello, which is set to open later this year. Ferrari said other "ateliers will then be opened over the next few months in other parts of the world."

The automaker listed several details that can be used to enhance the 612 Scaglietti, including an electrochromic panoramic roof that can be changed at the touch of a button to adjust the levels of sunlight allowed in the cabin.
