2004 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti
What's special about it?
The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti was designed to replace the successful Ferrari 456M. The new Ferrari gets its name from first its engine displacement (6 liters) and then the number of cylinders (12), and is lastly named for Ferrari coachbuilder, Sergio Scaglietti. Scaglietti has sculpted many past Ferraris out of aluminum, beautifully translating into metal the artistic efforts of the brilliant designer, Sergio Pininfarina.
The 612 Scaglietti is designed to seat four passengers in an aluminum chassis and body-the first time this construction has been used on a 12-cylinder Ferrari. This framework presents a 60 percent increase in overall structural rigidity for better handling characteristics.
The 6-liter V12 engine is tuned to produce a whopping 533 horsepower at 7250 rpm, with a torque rating of 433 foot-pounds at 5250 rpm. A conventional six-speed manual gearbox is available, or a new-generation electro-hydraulic six-speed F1A manual with automatic shifting and clutch.
What's Edmunds' take?
The Ferrari 612 Scagiletti was designed by Pininfarina designer Ken Okuyama and features scalloped sides reminiscent of the well-known 375 MM which was designed by Pininfarina for Roberto Rossellini as a gift for Ingrid Bergman. If one could afford all of this Ferrari heritage wrapped around an 8.5 cubic-foot cargo compartment (which can hold a five-piece Ferrari luggage set or two golf bags) and a cockpit that includes a steering wheel-mounted command system (designed for maximum driver control) and premium Bose sound system, we figure the next question is simple: Where do we sign up?
