- Ferrari's new 599 GTO officially debuted in Modena yesterday.
- Five-hundred Ferrari "clients" were on hand to witness the unveil.
- The supercar will appear next at the Beijing auto show.
MODENA, Italy — Ferrari must have figured its new 599 GTO, is so good, it merits not one, but two "world debuts" — one in Italy and one in China.
Last week, the company released the first official images of the car ahead of its official "public debut" next week at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show. At the time, Ferrari said it also was planning a private local event April 14 for "a small number of Ferrari clients."
Turns out 500 guests were invited to Wednesday's party at the Modena Military Academy's Ducal Palace, hosted by Ferrari chief Luca di Montezemolo. Ferrari is now referring to the local event as "the 599 GTO world premiere," while the Beijing event is being described as the car's "next official appearance."
The Modena party featured the arrival of three new GTOs, driven by Ferrari test-drivers Luca Badoer, Giancarlo Fisichella and Dario Benuzzi.
Inside Line says: Of the guests, Ferrari's official press release opined that "some felt sorry for not being amongst the 599 clients of this exceptional model," noting that the limited run of 599 units is sold out. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
