GENEVA — Just ahead of the car's official unveiling at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show, images of the Ferrari 599 Hybrid have leaked on several Web sites, notably carspyshots.com.
The existence of the gas-electric Ferrari was revealed earlier this year by company CEO Luca di Montezemolo.
The latest batch of leaked images appears to have been snapped on the show floor at Geneva's Palexpo. They show a 599 painted, appropriately, bright green, as well as detailed views of the mechanical systems.
Reports in the European media have said the 599 Hybrid will get a version of the KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) from Ferrari's Formula 1 cars, used for short bursts of power.
A story in Britain's Autocar said the 599 Hybrid prototype has been delivering 25 percent better fuel economy, but a production version is not likely to hit the street before 2015. It also said the hybrid technology could be applied to other Ferrari models.
Inside Line says: Ferrari joins fellow sports-car builders Porsche, Lotus and others in adapting hybrid technology to high-performance vehicles, a number of them to be unveiled this week in Geneva. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
