    Just the Facts:
    • Ferrari plans to unveil its new 599 Fiorano GTO at the 2010 Paris Auto Show.
    • It's likely to be a limited-edition, lightweight version of the 599 GTB Fiorano.
    • Various reports have said the car will use a 650- to 700-horsepower 6.0-liter V12.

MARANELLO, Italy — Ferrari now plans to publicly unveil its new 599 Fiorano GTO in September at the 2010 Paris Auto Show.

According to a report by AutoWeek, the GTO — the first Ferrari to wear that storied badge since the 1987 288 GTO Evoluzione — will be a limited-edition, lightweight version of the 599 GTB Fiorano, fitted with carbon-fiber body panels, a stripped-out cockpit and new alloy wheels, as well as reworked suspension and aerodynamics.

News of the GTO's resurrection broke last fall on several European Web sites, with Britain's Evo earlier this year carrying official confirmation from Ferrari.

Various reports have said the car will use a modified version of the 6.0-liter V12 that powers the 599 GTB Fiorano, producing 650-700 horsepower, with estimates of top speed ranging from 210 to 217 mph and a 0-60-mph time as low as 3.2 seconds.

According to AutoWeek, the car also may get a beefed-up dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox, adapted from the 458 Italia, rather than the six-speed sequential box from the 599 GTB Fiorano.

Several sources have said the actual design of the GTO will be inspired by the styling of Ferrari's track-only 599XX.

I'm saying a 3600 pound GTO seems like a move in the wrong direction for Ferrari.  Better to wait until they have an offering worthy of the GTO name.

"I guess it depends how much weight comes out because front engine v-12/ rear drive is where the GTO started."

Charlesb...what are you trying to say bro?  Isn't the 599 front engined and a V-12 as well?  Why would the GTO name be watered down on a car with virtually the same formula?

Watering down the GTO badge with this offering. Bad move Ferrari.   I guess it depends how much weight comes out because front engine v-12/ rear drive is where the GTO started.

Wouldn't it follow Ferrari tradition more to base a GTO version off of the smaller car, in this case the 458?
