2009 Geneva Auto Show: Ferrari 599GTB Fiorano HGTE

GENEVA — Ferrari teased us last week with a photo, but no specs on its new Handling Gran Turismo Evoluzione package for the 599 GTB Fiorano that is making its debut at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show. Now the cat, so to speak, is out of the bag.

The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE features a substantially revised suspension with recalibrated shocks, stiffer springs and a beefier rear stabilizer bar. Ferrari has lowered the ride height, and the tires employ a new compound for better traction.

Powertrain tweaks include better accelerator response and quicker high-speed shifts. The V12 even sounds better, thanks to a retuned muffler.

The new 20-inch split-rim wheels get a diamond-cut and matte silver finish, while the matte-black rear diffuser nicely complements the chrome exhaust pipes.

The cockpit of the 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE is trimmed in carbon fiber, full-grain leather and black Alcantara. A small touch: The Ferrari Prancing Horse and the words "Handling GTE" are embroidered in contrasting stitching on the headrests.

Inside Line says: As if the 599 GTB Fiorano needed much in the way of enhancements. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
