Exclusive Video and Spy Shots: 2007 Ferrari 600 Imola
This two-seat GT, built on a shortened version of the 612 Scaglietti's aluminum spaceframe chassis, will be replacing the Ferrari 575M when it goes on sale toward the middle of 2006, priced between the F430 and the Scaglietti.
The 600 Imola will also borrow the Scaglietti's front-midengine layout and will weigh in close to the latter vehicle at roughly 4,000 pounds.
Somewhat similar in its look to the Scaglietti, thanks to its Pininfarina design, the 600 Imola will have greater cabin and luggage space than the outgoing 575M.
The 600 Imola should improve handling and stability over the 575M thanks to its longer length and vastly superior engine — indeed, the Imola will field a retuned version of the Scaglietti's V12 that will increase the displacement of its platform mate's engine from 5.75 to 6.0 liters. This imposing piece of equipment will send power to the wheels via a clutchless manual transmission. Expect the Imola's total output to reside just a shade below 600 horsepower — above even that of the Scaglietti.
Numbers like this would put the Imola directly below only the Enzo in the Ferrari pecking order, while 0-to-60 acceleration will likely fall in the 4-second range.
Expect the Ferrari 600 Imola to debut at either the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January or at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
