MARANELLO, Italy — The Ferrari 458 Italia Spider reportedly will be priced from $257,000 when it arrives in the U.S. in early 2012, according to a report in Automotive News.

In response to an e-mail query, Ferrari North America spokesman Matteo Sardi told Inside Line: "The price is actually not official and not announced. Automotive News simply did an estimate."

The 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia is priced in the U.S. from $227,325, including a $2,000 shipping charge.

Sardi confirmed that the 458 Spider, which was unveiled at the recent 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, will go on sale early next year in North America.

According to Automotive News, the car will be priced considerably higher — from around $309,000 — when it hits European dealers next month. The publication said that for the past 10 years, Ferrari has been charging a price premium of about 15 percent for its open-air models over the standard hardtop versions.

Featuring a retractable hardtop, the 458 Spider replaces the F430 Spider, which was last sold in the U.S. in 2009, priced from just under $220,000.

Inside Line says: Ferrari continues to move its new models up the price ladder.

Why can't Ford and GM (Chrysler is now italian) build cars like this?
After all, the U.S. is one of the biggest market for exotic cars.

..... and zr1man has come out from his hole with another (yet the same) one of his delusions.....

Let's just wait for BD1 with his praise of Toyota LFA...

Design wise, IMO, F430 was the last good design from Ferrari.

My top 2 cars are now DBS and Aventador.

The Ferrari is nice but to the person that said they would choose one over a ZR1 simply because it would get more attention from people that you dont know and could careless about you maybe you should work on your self esteem...... I would buy the ferrari over th ZR1 because its interior is nicer its V8 sounds better and feels like a race car not to mention if you have extra 157,000 just laying around hey why not blow it on the nicest thing you can get. While the ZR1 is a nice machine, I'd still take this, and for a couple of reasons, while the average gearhead could tell the difference between a run of the mill vette and a ZR1, the average Jane could not.there is no mitakes when it come to the 458, if you ever see one at all..so if I were to have 140k (yes I said 140, good luck finding a zr1 on a showroom floor for any less) to pony up I'd just save up a some extra coin and go for the 458, the craftmanship and exlusivity are worth it in my book.....

At only 562 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque it won't be able to keep up with a ZR1, that costs less than half as much. Rayzor, I am with you on this one.

    Buy American. Be Proud.
