BOLOGNA, Italy — Adding a little spice to the 2009 Bologna Auto Show is the new 510-horsepower Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M, which made its formal debut on Wednesday. Ferrari says it will build only 499 units of the limited-edition model, which celebrates the 16th World Constructors' title won by Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro in the 2008 Formula 1 season.

    No word yet on pricing.

Ferrari said the Scuderia Spider 16M's V8 sprints from zero to 60 mph in less than 3.7 seconds. It has a top speed of 196 mph. It is 176 pounds lighter than the F430 Spider and boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 5.7 lb/hp.

The car can be ordered in two exterior trims. The basic model offers black with gray touches, or a louder tricolor livery is available. A special plaque on the rear grille marks the title. Other details include a roll bar with a carbon-fiber outer shell and a new-generation audio system that can be combined with the personalized Ferrari iPod Touch 16 GB docked in the dash.

Inside Line says: Ferrari offers a bit of cheer during an otherwise glum week in the auto biz. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
